Dinner at Cathedral House

Volunteers prepare and serve 75 - 100 meals on the 3rd Tuesday of every month, and on the 4th and 5th Fridays at the Cathedral House on Church Street in Hartford.

Bagged Lunch At the Park

Bagged lunches are prepared and distributed to 20 - 100 individuals every Saturday in Bushnell Park. Lunch at the Cathedral House every Sunday at noon.

Personal Care Items

Church Street Eats accepts donations of various personal care items to help build up and support the path to regain and maintain dignity.

Clothing is distributed most Sundays during lunch.

What Goes Into A Bagged Lunch?

  • Two sandwiches made with coldcuts, cheese and lettuces between hamburger rolls or sliced bread.
  • Packaged condiments such as mustard and mayonnaise. (Please don't add the condiments to sandwiche as it may spoil)
  • Bottled water or juice.
  • Fruit and/or cookies and/or chips
  • Napkins.

What Does A Dinner Consist Of?

  • Cold drink (lemonade, iced tea, etc.)
  • Salad or cole slaw
  • Main course (examples include meatloaf, chicken dish, pasta and meat)
  • Dessert (cookies, brownies, ice cream, etc.)

Items needed includes: new razors, toothbrushes, soap, toothpaste, deodorant, hand cream, shampoo.


Food Preparation
Food Preparation

When serving food at a buffet, keep food hot with chafing dishes, slow cookers, and warming trays. Keep food cold by nesting dishes in bowls of ice or use small serving trays and replace them often.

Working in the Kitchen
Kitchen Work

Safe steps in food handling, cookking, and storage are essenial to prevent foodborne illness  you can't see, smell or taste harmful bacteria that may cause illness. In every step of food preparation, follow the food saftey steps.


Used Clothes
Gentle Used Cloths

Clean, new and gently-used clothing for men and women of all types is helpful. Men large sizes are especially helpful. We are always in need of new underwear/t-shirts and socks, new and gently-used jeans and shoes, and professional clothing for those looking for work or re-entering the workforce. In the winter, we are especially in need of warm outerwear: coats, jackets, hats, gloves, and scarves.
