Christ Church Cathedral has sponsored a vested
choir since at least 1887. Originally a Men
and Boys Choir,
the Cathedral Choir has grown to include girls
and adult women’s voices as well. Our
mission and purpose is to facilitate and help
lead the worship
of Almighty God in this place. We sing nearly
every Sunday morning during the regular term
(September – June),
and rehearse on Wednesday evenings. The Choristers
(Fourth Grade through Twelfth Grade) gather at
5:00 p.m. in the Choir Room, rehearse until
6, then
share a meal
together. They then have a written music class from 6:30 until 7:30. They are joined at 7:00 by the adults
and rehearse together until 8:00. The Choristers
are dismissed
at 8:00, and the adults continue their rehearsal
until 9:00 p.m. Choristers also rehearse select
Sundays at 11:30 a.m.

We
sing a widely varied repertoire throughout the year
consisting of Plainchant through 21st century composers.
The Choir is affiliated with the Royal
School of Church Music, and employ their excellent
vocal/choral curriculum, "Voice
for Life." There are currently six professional
section leaders in the choir, and we number about 30
singers all together. The Choir will undertook their
first ever choral residency at Ely
Cathedral in August of 2009 singing daily Evensong
and Choral Eucharist on Sunday. We also sang Evensong
at St. Paul's Cathedral,
London. They will sing another residency at Lincoln
Cathedral in August 2012. If you are interested
in becoming a member of the Cathedral Choir or know
a girl or boy in grades 4-12 who is, please contact
Kevin Jones, Canon Precentor & Director of Music,
at 860.527.7231, x112, or via email at kjones@cccathedral.org.
